XMAS Mittens in Santa's colours
keep your hands warm and your fingertips free
these mittens were made to match the XMAS Hat

Yes, I know it is already one week into January 2018, Christmas and New Year have come and gone, and I have only just managed to catch up with myself after the holiday season. What about you?

I hope all of you have had a wonderful 2017 year with loads of crocheting under your belt. Hopefully this New Year 2018 you are ready to explore and try new crochet projects, new crochet skills and techniques. Also, may you manage to finish some of those projects which you started last year.

I would love to hear about your crochet plans for this year, you can always share in the comments below or on my Crocknit Facebook page.

XMAS MITTENS CROCHET PATTERN

I have finally managed to complete the instructions for these mittens which I made in December to match the Xmas Hats my darling and I wore at Christmastime.

Xmas Mittens pattern is simply a striped crochet mitten and all you need to know is how to crochet in the round, how to single crochet, how to crochet in front and back loop, and how to change colour every round.

Best of all, you can make these mittens in any colour, they are not just for Christmas, same goes for the Xmas Hat. Choose whatever colour you like, it's always your choice.

These crochet fingerless mittens are cosy and warm and there are still plenty of cold wintry days left for wearing these lovely Aran mittens this winter.

Suggested Yarn

I used the same Aran yarn for these mittens as for the Xmas Hat, Hayfield Bonus Aran with Wool. The Aran colours are Deep Red 830 and Ivory Aran 962.

You can substitute the yarn if you wish, just remember to check the YarnSub website, to get the best match.

Crochet Designs - Mittens and Headbands

Mittens and Headbands

As autumn comes around we start thinking of mittens and scarves, hats and headbands. So here is a little pattern I worked on, oh some time ago, and only now have managed to write up the pattern. It is one of the most time consuming parts of pattern designing and not much fun for me. I really have to be strict with myself to get it all together, I would much rather be crocheting instead or better yet out in the countryside enjoying nature and taking photos.

crochet patterns, mittens, headbands, fingerless, gloves,

When I first made these mittens I was thinking of a quick and simple pattern for mittens, which can be made from cotton for those days or evenings when a little warmth on your hands is all you need and it doesn't have to be full-blown woollen warmth, although you can easily use this pattern to make yourself a lovely pair of mittens and headband using a lovely pure merino wool yarn.

My love of Bendigo Woollen Mills

I just love the yarns from Bendigo Woollen Mills in Australia, my favourite has to be their 8ply and 4ply pure cotton. These cotton yarns are just so soft and come in nice big balls of 200g. Just perfect for large projects and helps you eliminate continually having to hide yarn ends.

OK that's enough said about the cotton yarn, they also carry a good range of other yarns. It is well-worth visiting their website, even with shipping costs their prices are quite reasonable.

DO check the lovely BWM yarns HERE   and see for yourself.

Crochet "Just for Men"

crochet patterns, how to crochet, man mittens, fingerless, gloves, men, mitts

CROCHET PATTERNS for MEN

Here it is my latest pattern for THE MAN in my life! This crochet pattern is totally a man thing! Robust with a sensual earthy style.

These crochet mittens were made with Patons Wool Blend Aran, a classic autumn/winter yarn and it is ever so worthwhile to go and check out the lovely yarn colour palette. Yarn shades range from creams to browns and from blues to greys.  Perfect colours for manly crochet garments and accessories.

I simply love crocheting with this yarn, it's a great wool blend aran with 63% wool and 27% acrylic, ball weight 100g and recommended hook 4.5mm. However, I have written this pattern using a 5mm hook, because using a 4.5mm hook with the FPdc stitch pattern will make the finished material too tight and rigid with a limited stretch factor.

These crochet fingerless mittens are a huge hit with my man!  He loves the textured design and has already asked for another pair in a dark blue colour.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE - Scarves and Mittens

crochet patterns, how to crochet, keyhole scarf, mittens, fingerless,

WHAT SUMMER?

You may ask where is it? It is coming to the end of  July and supposedly it is summer here in the UK.  However, lately the temperatures have not risen high enough for me to get out of wearing two and sometimes even three layers.  Which is why it is so easy to be crocheting scarves, be they mobius, cowls, or keyhole and mittens, fingerless of course my favourite.  I don't need full gloves in winter unless it is absolutely freezing.

crochet patterns, how to crochet, keyhole scarf, mittens, fingerless,

I am keeping myself busy in the warmth of indoors, I have just finished another "simply beautiful" scarf and mittens ensemble. This time it's a keyhole scarf with "mix and match" mittens and my favourite "perfect heart" motif pattern.

Easy Honeycomb Stitch

Again, I have used my simplified version of the "honeycomb stitch" to make this colourful set.

You may say this is not the honeycombe stitch you know. I too have crocheted the honeycomb stitch and enjoyed the complexity, but here for this exercise I have used a simpler version of the stitch.
A simple row of FPdc and dc, and then a row of BPdc and dc, a simple combination of stitches producing a very tactile textured fabric.
The texture of the fabric traps air and keeps you warm and it also creates a fabric with stretch and elasticity, therefore it stretches and springs back into shape.

Sweetheart Ensemble

I am naming this ensemble "sweetheart" obviously for the little heart motif, what else could I call it?  and I just love these colours, I am using Rowan Yarn Wool Cotton DK (50% Merino Wool 50% Cotton). Colours are Rich 911 and Bilberry 969.  I just love this yarn, soft and warm and easy to work with.
